Visa & Permits
Nepal is one of the easiest countries in Asia to enter. Here's everything you need to know about visas, trekking permits, and special authorizations.
Visa on Arrival
Most nationalities can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) or at land border crossings. You will need a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date and one recent passport-sized photo.

TIMS Card
The Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card is required for all trekking routes in Nepal. It serves as a safety registration system and must be carried during your trek.

- •Independent trekkers (FIT): $40 per person
- •Arranged by your trekking agency

National Park Permits
Trekking routes that pass through national parks and conservation areas require additional entry permits. These are arranged by your agency and checked at park entry points.
- •Sagarmatha National Park (Everest): $30
- •Annapurna Conservation Area: $30
- •Langtang National Park: $30
- •Manaslu Conservation Area: $30-50
- •Chitwan National Park: $25/day

Restricted Area Permits
Certain remote regions of Nepal require special restricted area permits. These must be obtained through a registered trekking agency, and some areas require a minimum group size of two trekkers.
- •Upper Mustang: $500 for first 10 days, $50/day after
- •Upper Dolpo: $500 for first 10 days
- •Lower Dolpo: $10/week
- •Kanchenjunga: $10/week
- •Must be arranged through a registered agency
- •Minimum 2 trekkers required for some areas
Drone Permits
Flying drones in Nepal requires authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Additional permits are needed for drone use within national parks and conservation areas.

Filming Permits
Professional filming — including commercial, documentary, and television production — requires permits from the Department of Tourism and sometimes the Ministry of Home Affairs.
